We are all familiar with the adage that ?less is more?, especially when it comes to hair on a woman?s body, but what about hair on men? Why is there suddenly a trend for hair removal for men?

The expression ?clean-shaven? gives us a clue. Many people feel that someone who is clean-shaven looks younger, is physically more attractive and exudes self-confidence. A recent survey conducted on behalf of Gillette M3Power showed that half the women polled said they preferred the clean-shaven look over any sort of facial hair- often referring to the fact that clean-shaven men are perceived to be more honest than men with facial hair.

Hair Removal for Men – Not a new trendHebrew men of ancient times grew beards. Yet, the Bible tells us that Joseph shaved prior to appearing before Pharaoh. (Genesis 41:14) Why did he shave? To conform with Egyptian custom and etiquette, which considered facial hair to be a sign of uncleanness. ?[The Egyptians] prided themselves on being clean-shaven,? says the book Everyday Life in Ancient Egypt. In fact, cosmetic sets consisting of razors, tweezers, and mirrors, along with their containers, have been found in tombs.

What about back, chest and underarm hair? Is less really more?Again, most women are not attractive to hairy backed men although some women findhairy chests to be attractive and masculine. In the movie ?Hitch?, Will Smith as The Date Doctor is preparing a client to be more attractive to a prospective date. One of the ?must do? things is the waxing of his back to remove all of the hair. Even though it seems to be quite painful, some men are willing to undergo such torture to win the love of their

Hair Removal for Men – Why Be Concerned?Hair grows more than three eighths of an inch [10 mm] per month, and it is one of the quickest developing parts of the body. When the growth of all the hairs is combined, it reaches more than 60 feet [20 m] per day! Yikes!

But won?t hair that is shaved grow back faster and thicker?

The Myth of Hair Growth?Cutting or shaving your hair will not affect its rate of growth, texture or thickness,? states a health-and-fitness article in The New York Times. The myth that hair will grow back faster and thicker if cut or shaved has been around for many years. However, repeated studies since the 1920?s have shown that ?the length, texture and coarseness of your hair are determined by genetics and hormone levels, not by how often you shave,? says the article. Why does the myth persist? It may be because many people start shaving early in life, when hair growth has not reached its highest rate and the hair is of lighter color. Also, ?hair is darker and rougher at its roots, so removing the tips gives the appearance of coarser hair,? states the Times. ?The bristly stubble that emerges after shaving may also be more noticeable than the same amount of growth in hair that is already long.?

So, what should you do if you’re a really hairy guy and you want to get rid of some of your body hair? There’s no need to fret, because there are so many products on the market now that hair removal for men is quick, easy and painless. So, what are you waiting for? Get to it!
